HUNTINGTON, W.Va. (WCHS) — A fully integrated medical cannabis company is set to open Friday in Huntington.

The Landing Dispensary is addressing a growing need in the mountain state.

As a lifelong West Virginian, David Heeter, said he's had dreams of opening a business since he was a kid.

"My main goal with this was to build good jobs in my community," Heeter said.

He's the founder of Hillfire Medical Cannabis and The Landing Dispensary. The cannabis is grown in Millwood, WV. It gets packaged there, then it's brought to the dispensary in Huntington to be sold.

Since the Office of Medical Cannabis was created five years ago, more than 10,000 patients suffering from conditions like Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, cancer or neuropathy have been approved for a medical marijuana card. And 24 medical cannabis dispensaries have opened across the state.

Office director, Jason Frame, said the state allows a maximum of 100 medical cannabis dispensaries to operate in total. He said his office has already approved applications for 76 more dispensaries.

Sean Cifranic runs Hillfire Medical Cannabis in Jackson County.

"Overseeing everything from seed to sale," Cifranic said. "From the cultivation of the newly propagated plants through their vegetative flowering phases, drying, curing, extraction, all the way through final packaging. Everything that leads the product right to the door at The Landing Dispensaries."

There's a big focus on education at The Landing, with plans to create an individualized experience for each patient to learn which type of cannabis is best to treat their ailments.

Retail manager, Michael Clark, said cannabis affects every body in different ways.

"A lot of people are familiar with THC, but some minor cannabinoids that people might not be familiar with are CBN, typically used at night, CBG and of course CBD, which of course, a lot of people are familiar with," Clark said.

Nine more locations of The Landing have been approved and will be opening across the state over the next several months.
