[1954]

My older cousin  Steve served two tours of duty as Marine Corp MP in Vietnam.
Steve came back to Boone Iowa in 1968.
He brought some pot with him from Vietnam.
It was really dark almost black pot. No buds just a fancy tin can full of  ground up weed. He called it Vietnamese Black
Steve was kinda crazy.
His nick name in high school in that little town was berserk.
That was before he when to war.
Lets say he was a tough guy before left for Vietnam and a grown man when he came back.
Anyhow, Steve always treated me like gold.
I looked up to him.
Me, 14 years old and Steve in a uniform..., well he rolled a pin joint and toked it up in his bedroom upstairs in his moms house.
I think I remember the music, "In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida" and the  Iron Butterfly, but the smoke branded my brain.
It was prolly the first time I smoked good pot.
Living in Iowa, pot grows wild in the ditches and I had by that time smoked Iowajuana a few times before that.
I can remember I got totally fucked up.
I think I hallucinated.
Totally stoned.
I remember thinking it was prolly spiked with opium or LSD or something.
Anyhow, that was last time I have ever even heard of Vietnamese Black.
I have always kept it my in mind.
Never letting go of that moment.
Told this story dozens of times.
Since then cousin Steve, died years ago.
Always a tough guy all his life.
Kick any body's ass. Fearless.
Crazy and always treating me like royalty.
Any how.
Two days ago, I downloaded a menu from Caligirl.
It had been a couple months since I checked the menu, because I have been keeping myself clean , I have been looking for a new job, just in case I need to pass a piss test.
Wow
On their menu was Vietnamese Black.
It was the September menu and I checked it on like the 30th.
I got so excited.
I placed an order in like 2 minutes.
I drove to the ATM at like 11 pm, got the letter ready and begged wifie to take to the post office for me early yesterday morning.

Luckily I left a note in the order telling this story to Caligirl and begging them to hold me a Z.
Caligirl responded back saying it was good thing I jumped on the story because they were almost out and Cali said they would save one for me.
They said it really strong sativa, almost black.
Sold really quick.
Anyhow, I am  anxiously waiting for the delivery.
My letter is not there yet, but I am hoping to get it by next weekend.

To top it off, I got a 6 figure job offer.
I accepted it and will be putting in my notice at my current job soon.
I have do a piss test this week and I haven't toked for over 2 months so I WILL pass in flying colors.

Just imagine me toking a joint of  Vietnamese Black.
Dope that I have been looking for, dreaming about since 1968.

Got the weed. Not as black I remember but is a dark brown. Smell is wonderful. I will try it. Maybe next week and leave a lil review.

No discernible capture of lost youth.

It has been over 3 months since I worried about psssing piss tests and started looking for a better job. Fuck the old job of 6 years. It turned into a rat race.

Vietnamese black from Cali girl. I can say it was not a disappointment. It is really strong. Smell and taste is one of humans best memories so I can say the modern version is pale and by comparison. The pot vaguely has the same aroma and flavor. It was close enough to make me imagine what curing processes were used in 1968 Vietnam.
I remember Thai sticks from the 70's. Pot that was actually woven and pressed into sticks.
The pot that my cousin had in 1968 may have had curing  flavor and blackening  enhancements.
I would recommend the Vietnamese pot to others. Buds are nice. Medium density. About the size of a quarter. I am thinking about toking some now. I will add more to this thread.

My job should be an improvement. I am a SR engineer   so I am confident of my work. The hardest part will be dealing with yappy kids right out of college who want to debate or challenge experience.. without having a clue.

Yeah, I think nostalgia/association can play a big part in that whole deal.  People's sense of smell is tied to memory more than other senses iirc, and that causes things like foods, colognes, etc to breed stronger associations that we tie into emotions.  I think something like a cannabis strain can fit right in there too.  Fascinating in it's own way, but shitheads in marketing seem to constantly try and leverage that against consumers to increase profit margins. Putting out products that evoke nostalgic emotion can be great, but there's no need to use that association to put out sub par products because they can get away with it. Just a little tangent rant.
