Regionalism: noun \ˈrēj-nə-ˌli-zəm, ˈrē-jə-nə-ˌli-\. : interest in or loyalty to a particular region. : a word that is used in a particular region.


Feel free to provide yours as well. Always funny to see how different people and areas converse somewhat differently.

• firefly vs. lightning bug
  
• tennis shoes vs. sneakers vs. runners
  
• soda vs. pop vs. coke
  
• sprinkles vs. jimmies
  
• thongs vs.  flip flops vs. slippers
  
• highway vs. freeway
  
• buggie vs. shopping cart
  
• toboggan vs. wooden sled vs. knitted cap?
  

These are the kinds of things no one realizes really, but as soon as you go on vacation somewhat far, you start to get some weird looks at times.

I have always used e-way as short for expressway. And most people say pop around here, but I like to say soda or beverage and see the funny looks I get.
