At 77, Cannabis Champion Dana Beal Fights Idaho Laws To Push Legalization In Hostile Territory

Dana Beal’s journey, marked by relentless advocacy for cannabis and psychedelics legalization, takes a new turn following his recent release from Idaho’s Gooding County Jail. Arrested in January for alleged marijuana trafficking, the 77-year-old activist now faces a potential 15-year prison sentence, even as the U.S. seems to be moving toward legalization.

Following the January arrest for possessing 56 pounds of cannabis, Beal spent nearly two months in jail, rallying support for his release on a $250,000 bail.

Challenging Idaho’s Stringent Cannabis Laws
Released after a nationwide mobilization and with the support of Adam Eidinger and Don Wirtshafter, CelebStoner reported, Beal refuses to bow to the pressures of a system still entrenched in prohibitionist views. When asked for comment by The New York Times, Idaho’s attorney general stated, “If you are trying to transport marijuana across state lines through Idaho, take the long way instead. It'll save us money on your incarceration.”
