About to make my first batch of Honey Oil
« on: June 24, 2013, 08:34:47 PM »

I've gotten all the equipment I need together.

I've mcguyvered an oil extractor tube from a stainless steel turkey baster.
It is filled to the brim with shake from medical grade.
I have a coffee filter zip tied over the open end of the tube.
Got a Pyrex baking dish and Lucienne Butane, which I've read good reviews for.

I will provide additional details and pics as soon as I'm able to move forward with this experiment.

In case you aren't aware, you absolutely NEED to do this outside. It seems like common sense, but my wife was telling me just today about some dumbass who burned 90% of the skin off of his body doing this in a motel bathroom. Yes, he died.

Yeah - that's the only thing preventing me from doing it tonight. Nasty storm rolled in.

Wait wait wait, do what? If I was going to do this I'm sure I would research it properly and more than likely come across this info along with the process, but why exactly is this absolutely necessary asides from the side effects obviously? Ventilation purposes, or am I missing something else here?

Damn I've been off these pot cigarettes for way too long, damnit! All the cool shit comes out after I must commit to not partaking :(

One little spark makes for a very messy death.

The fumes clear MUCH faster outside.

I thought you did this last year?

Helped a friend. Used his equipment.

This is the first time I'm doing it for myself, alone, with my own tools.
Plus, it's fun to document. :D

I still think pentane or hexane is far safer.  For that matter a xylene x-traction would even help reduce plant lipids, waxes and sterols.  The only caveat is you should finish with a vacuum evaporation to completely remove solvents with higher alkanes.  Butane is hard to handle and dangerous; yes, I know it is widely available.

CO2 supercritical fluid extraction would be ideal, but you would need a few grand to invest.

Cant get any of these.

Butane, unfortunately, is convenient.
I would prefer oxygen, honestly.

Just be safe, do it outside, protect your workspace from static electricity, have a safety/escape plan and think all the time it could blow up in your face.

I don't want to have to attend your damn funeral Bro.  I don't go to relative's funerals.
