Nutmeg
« on: February 15, 2013, 03:56:19 AM »
I'm thinkin about givin nutmeg another go sometime, anyone else wanna discuss?

For those who don't know, in large quantities nutmeg becomes psychoactive.   It contains the chemicals myristicin and elemicin.  It's sorta like being baked for 3 days and really dehydrated.  lol

I've tried it a few times in the past and enjoyed it.  I got a jar of whole nutmegs the other day and I'm thinking sometime in the future when I'm out of other good psychoactives I'll give it another go.

Anyone else ever try it?  lol

I'd refer you to the Erowid nutmeg vault

http://www.erowid.org/plants/nutmeg/

Here's a pretty good review from the vault..

http://www.erowid.org/experiences/exp.php?ID=32992

There's mixed reactions to it, some people seem to say they'd never do it again.  I'm one of the ones who has fond memories of the 1 or 2 times I've ever done it.  I enjoy the ritual of trying new drugs a lot of the time as much as actually doing them though, and I associate a lot of the memories I have of trying it with the excitement of hunting down whole nutmegs at a store, buying a mortar and pestle to smash them up in, and trying to get it down and not have too many nutmeg burps.  Haha.  It's terrible to a lot of people but I'm the sort of guy who will put up with a little pain for a little gain.

I remember feeling just baaaaked for like 2 days the first time, and really surprised and pleased.

I tried it too. It was fucking god-awful, the taste, the feel, not my cup of mxe. But if it works for you, carry on!

Didn't work for me, it doesn't seem to work for a lot of others as well. I did have the pains / dehydration / headaches though.

At least you know what you're putting in your body with something like nutmeg..  Haha you guys are a bunch of debbie downers.

The times I tried it as a younger man I remember enjoying it.

Now, a few weeks later, I'm gonna try an experiment tonight.  I plan on being up until tomorrow night, so I have a long time-frame to work with to give it a go.

I just smashed up 5 'megs' with a hammer in a plastic baggie, wedged between a towel.  It's always worked better for me and seemingly for anyone with fresh megs.

A lot of people don't like it, but then a lot of people don't like DXM either, which I have quite enjoyed in the past.  I'm gonna give it another go.  I'll report back how it feels.  I'm staying away from blends on purpose lately, as I lack the self control to not binge on them..  I quite enjoy the mind-altering however, so it's back to fun little experiments a few times a month like the good old daze.

Wish me luck.  Gonna start downing the powder with some water now.  The worst parts I remember were the dry mouth and nutmeg burps, but for some reason I really like the ritual of the preparation when I do odd substances like this..  The smell of the nutmeg is a good one to me, and not one I've developed a horrible aversion to like with robotussin.  This smell is taking me back to a time many years ago, when I was a younger man, first experimenting with things like this, and I quite enjoy that feeling of nostalgia.   ;)

Again, wish me luck.  :D

Here's a few more positive high-rated reports from Erowid..

Nutmeg: A hidden reality

Over the counter visions:
http://www.erowid.org/experiences/exp.php?ID=26428

Recreational Nutmeg Experiment
http://www.erowid.org/experiences/exp.php?ID=3570

The last one uses a method I tried once before which worked pretty well, of boiling the smashed up nutmegs and using the resulting oil that forms on the top.  I'd probably do this, if I didn't currently live with my mother who would wonder why the kitchen smells like nutmeg.  Haha

I'm so good at swallowing random stuff (no jokes please!) that I already downed half the smashed up nutmeg in one gulp.  Years of practice.

It was this or Morning Glory seeds tonight, as I'm quite bored and my mind is crying for alteration.  I figure there's less chance of puking with the nutmeg.

About 2 and a half hours in now..

Slight giggles noticed..  Everything seems more brightly lit.  Feel mildly relaxed.

The light brightness is definitely not placebo..  I feel like I could be more comfortable using the computer with sunglasses on.  White background pages are brutal.

Listenin to some chill Nujabes

I feel pretty high, definitely well above baseline and out of "could be placebo" territory.  Quite enjoyable.  Colors and lights are brighter still, music is groovy..

I did what most recommend you don't, I smashed up 3 more nutmegs and took them a minute ago.  Haha I wanna be fucked, so I'm hoping in the next few hours it takes me beyond what I'm feeling now into a dream-like state.

It's Friday, I ain't got no job, and I ain't got shit to do!

Enjoy the experience but don't do it too often.  There are lots of studies on people who did this because they didn't have access to any other drugs and there are some short term adverse health risks involved.  It brings up the adage that just because it is a natty doesn't necessarily mean it is safe.
