New Hampshire’s House is to vote on the legalization of recreational marijuana, early next month, within the first three days of the 2014 legislative session.

Just earlier this year, Gov. Maggie Hassan signed a bill which legalized medical marijuana in the state. Since then, efforts to push for recreational use of marijuana, have been made.

The current bill, if made into law, would allow anyone age 21 and over to possess up to one ounce of marijuana and grow up to six cannabis plants in a controlled environment. The drug would be taxed at retail level, and supporters of the bill are proposing to tax $30 per ounce. The legislation is modeled on the ballot initiative passed by Colorado voters last November, and is similar to what voters of Washington passed.

“Nothing in the bill would allow anyone to drive under the influence of marijuana or any other substance. By legalizing, regulating and taxing [marijuana], society would in effect be taking the profit away from illegal operations which truly harm society,” wrote State Rep. Steve Vaillancourt – a republican supporter of the bill.

According to a recent poll, approximately 60% of New Hampshire adults support HB 492, a bill to tax and regulate marijuana like alcohol. Despite this, the last legislation to go through the House, legalize recreational marijuana, was voted against 11-7. If it passes this time, it will have to go to the Senate, which rejected a bill to decriminalize possession of up to one-quarter ounce of the drug this year. The governor of the state also opposes decriminalization.

It feels good to be running from the devil
Another breath and I'm up another level
It feels good to be up above the clouds
It feels good for the first time in a long time now
